        Open Saturday and Sunday from about 7 am to 2 pm. This swap meet is laid out in a huge Greyhound racetrack parking lot. In the summer it’s a shell of its true self, because heat thins out both buyers and sellers. Small walk-in admission, and charge for parking if you drive. Bus: Yellow line to 38th Street, or #3 Van Buren bus to 40th St., walk south 2 blocks.

        Many long-time customers will argue this is among the best Chinese restaurant in the country. Started in the 80’s by a trained master chef from Hong Kong, everything is very reasonably priced including the lobster. Lunch specials are even cheaper.         Chinese restaurant. No discounts for seniors or disabled people, but it=s only $4.86 for all you can eat, and a wide variety of dishes. The only caveat is to watch out if you are sensitive to MSG, because buffets can=t cook you something special without it. Open daily 11 to 8:30, Sundays 12 to 8:30. Bus: #16, Green Line, #12.

        Literally at the end of the block, Circle K may actually be cheaper than supermarkets for some staples. Eggs and bread are often cheaper when there are no sales at big supermarkets, and fresher. Soft drinks may be cheaper some weeks – watch for specials. Our local Circle K discourages transient liquor consumption in the neighborhood. To this end, they do not sell individual beers, fortified wine, any hard liquor, or any beer or wine in less than $5 units.
